From thinking to doing

We’re pleased to see work on advancing New Zealand's ability to unlock the latent value of data is gaining momentum.

In February Government endorsed our recommendations and Cabinet directed lead agencies to advance work on the following four priority areas:

  • Catalyst projects/Data Champion
  • Data Council
  • Review legislative and policy environment
  • Expansion of the Open Government Data programme

We’ve always stressed that driving social and economic value from data requires a collective effort across the public, private and NGO sectors and we’re delighted that government have been developing this work collaboratively. This work builds directly on the thinking we did as a Forum and is exploring how, at a practical level our recommendations can be implemented.

We look forward to seeing how this progresses and where it lands.
